Is there anything like building fence with teenagers? I kind of compare it to fishing with children!!!! There are reverberation of Mrs. Spears, Renee, Nanny, ect..every 5 minutes. To which I replied, “Just a minute!” from one end of the fence to the other. However, while it may be that way sometimes, this crew of volunteer teenagers are amazing!
Overlapping a new sheep, goat, and pig fence onto an old single wire barbed fence, upon the owner’s request, we found to be somewhat frustrating! However, we made it work. The distance between post was more than I was comfortable with, so at places we would add a post or connect the new fence to the existing one. In working with one of the community service teenagers(not pictured), we were hard at it, until he noticed that the wire that we were connecting to had broken and in no way supported the fence. I just shook my head at the irony. As we disconnected to the unsecured fence, I couldn’t help but think of the correlation to my life.
What and who I connect to in life is sooooo important! In my life, my spiritual relationship with God is the most valuable and important. Upon receiving Christ as my Savior, my heart was to be Christ like, a Christian, in all I do and say(though I often fail in acts, my heart is relentless) It is firm and secure(unlike the fence, ha!). Next, my friends and spouse make a huge impact in how secure I am connected. I thank God for my husband every day! While we are very very different in so many ways, we both are connected to the same source. Because of that, we can go forward regardless of the storm. Sometimes the connection has been tested to the very limits of who we are and we are crawling belly down for each inch, but we have remained connected to God, our source, and to each other. All that I am and New Life Trails disseminates is in response to God’s work through my husband. You don’t see or hear from him personally a lot, but he is there in Christ through every word and action that transpires.

The Bible tells in 2 Corinthians 6: 14-17 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion has light with darkness? And what concord has Christ with Belial: or what part has he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols: for ye are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, says the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And I will be a Father to you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty. I love these verses! They are so personal!!!!! They are so from the heart of God!!!!! He longs that we walk in fellowship with Him, connected!!!!!

In our best efforts, just like the fence, we can connect to the wrong things. In response to that, just like the fence, we have to disconnect to the lose unsecured people or situations.
p.s. Sometimes it is a good idea to pull on the wire beforehand to test its security! hint hint
